Un vídeo que pretén mostrar l'execució de 21 {{W|Església Ortodoxa Copta|cristians coptes}} pels partidaris de l'{{W|Estat Islàmic|Estat Islàmic de l'Iraq i el Llevant}} (ISIL) es va donar a conèixer el dia 15. Els captius, tots executats amb micos taronges en el vídeo, van ser recollits a {{W|Sirte}}, una ciutat costanera a Líbia, durant desembre i gener. El vídeo afirma que els cristians van ser atacats per ISIL causa de la seva religió.

A video purporting to show the execution of 21 {{w|Coptic Orthodox Church|Coptic Christians}} by supporters of {{w|Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant}} (ISIL) has been released yesterday. The video shows them being beheaded in a location apparently near {{w|Tripoli}} in {{w|Libya}}.
 
The captives, all shown being executed in orange {{wikt|jumpsuit|jumpsuits}} in the video, were picked up in {{w|Sirte}}, a coastal town in Libya, during December and January. The video asserts the Christians were targeted by ISIL because of their religion.
L'{{W|Església Ortodoxa Copta}} va afirmar que tenen "confiança" que la justícia es farà amb qui ha executat els seus seguidors. El president d'{{W|Egipte}}, [[w:es:Abdelfatah Al-Sisi|Abdelfatah Al-Sisi]] va declarar: "''Egipte i tot el món es troben en una ferotge batalla amb els grups extremistes que porten l'ideologia extremista i que comparteixen els mateixos objectius''".
 
The Coptic Orthodox Church stated they were "confident" justice would be done on those who executed their followers. {{w|Egypt}}'s President {{w|Abdel Fattah al-Sisi}} stated: "Egypt and the whole world are in a fierce battle with extremist groups carrying extremist ideology and sharing the same goals".
L'[[w:es:Universidad de al-Azhar|Universitat d'Al-Azhar]], un centre amb seu al {{W|Caire}} per a l'ensenyament islàmic, va descriure l'assassinat dels cristians com "bàrbar" i va declarar que les accions no tenen "res a veure amb cap religió o els valors humans".
